MRC has updated and seeks to expand its rowing programs for youth entering sixth, seventh, or eighth grades. We now offer a two day camp which leads to our Middle School Rowing Program.

Enjoy learning a cool, new sport in a safe environment on the Mississippi River this summer. We focus on fun and learning as well as fitness. Participants are taught the basics of the rowing stroke along with boat handling, terminology, and care for equipment.

Middle School Learn to Row is a 2 day camp introducing participants to the basics of the rowing in our 10 person training barge where the coach will instruct directly on the training barge with the rowers. PFDs are provided. Participants should wear athletic shoes and closer fitting gym type clothing. Excessively baggy tops and bottoms could get caught in the boat.

Please register with the intention to attend both days.

The Learn To Row camp is an opportunity to get a brief taste of the sport and a completely different view of the Mississippi River Gorge.

Following camp, participants are encouraged to continue rowing in the Middle School Rowing Program. The camp only needs to be completed once before joining the Middle School Rowing Program.

Click on the season to register. Completion of a Middle School Rowing Camp or equivalent with another organization is a pre-requisite for participation in the Middle School Rowing Program. This program is designed to be repeatable as instruction will be adjusted to the rowers skill level.

Spring 2025: April 26 - June 7 (returning athletes only)
11:30am - 1:30pm Saturdays

Summer 2025: June 23 - August 21
3:30-5:30pm Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays

Fall 2025: August 30 - October 11
11:30am - 1:30pm Saturdays

This program will continue development of sweep rowing and sculling skills in a fun and supportive environment. We welcome rowers back throughout middle school and provide an excellent progression for those interested in continuing to row in high school. All participants will receive a t-shirt. On the final day of the program, members of MRC Junior Team will mix it up with Middle School Rowers and race in a mini regatta.

We understand vacations and other activities and commitments will occur, especially during the summer. For optimal enjoyment, we recommended commitment to approximately 75% of sessions.

The Middle School Rowing Program requires a minimum enrollment of 5 participants. The registration fee will be refunded if a season is cancelled due to low enrollment.

The Middle School Rowing Program is led by MRC Coach Lola Heimlich.  All programming is under the oversight of our Junior Head Coach, Vicki Larson.

Minneapolis Rowing Club is part of the U.S. Olympic Committee's Safe Sport program, seeking to create a healthy and supportive environment for all participants.
