Adult Learn to Row

The best things begin with, "I've always wanted to..."

Adult Learn to Row
MRC has redesigned our Learn To Row (LTR) and Experiential Rowing Programs for 2021 to ensure we meet or exceed public health and social distancing guidelines. Masks or other face coverings that cover the nose and mouth are required at all times for LTR sessions.
In addition, all Learn To Row student must be vaccinated before they can participate.

Please view the MRC Safety page for detailed MRC COVID-19 Procedures.

MRC welcomes adults who would like to get a sense of the beauty and camaraderie that can be found rowing in the heart of the Twin Cities. This class offers over 6 hours of instruction on land and on the water including basics of the rowing stroke and how to handle the rowing equipment. Upon completion of Learn To Row, participants may become MRC members and continue rowing with our Adult Novice Team (beginning June 2021).

In May and June, on the water instruction will be in single boats (one person per boat) to comply with social distancing requirements. This summer as COVID guidelines permit, MRC may transition on the water instruction to multi-person boats.

Regardless of how you learn to row, you will have the opportunity for continued skill development in both small and larger team boats on our Novice Team.  Therefore, we strongly encourage you to sign up for the session that best fits your schedule.

Class Outline

Fridays at the MRC Boathouse, 6:00 - 8:30pm
Friday nights will be on land only with an orientation and tour of our award-winning boathouse, stroke work on the erg and sculling trainer, and an introduction to equipment and equipment handling. Wear clothes comfortable for light to moderate exercise.

Saturdays and Sunday at the MRC Boathouse - Get ready to row! You'll warm up and review stroke basics before getting out on the water.
