MRC has updated and seeks to expand its rowing programs for youth entering sixth, seventh, or eighth grades. We now offer a two day camp which leads to our Middle School Rowing Program.
Enjoy learning a cool, new sport in a safe environment on the Mississippi River this summer. We focus on fun and learning as well as fitness. Participants are taught the basics of the rowing stroke along with boat handling, terminology, and care for equipment.

Camp III: July 6-7
Middle School Learn to Row is a 2 day camp introducing participants to the basics of the rowing in our 10 person training barge where the coach will instruct directly on the training barge with the rowers. PFDs are provided. Participants should wear athletic shoes and closer fitting gym type clothing. Excessively baggy tops and bottoms could get caught in the boat.
Each camp meets 10:00am - 12:00pm daily. Please register with the intention to attend both days.
The Learn To Row camp is an opportunity to get a brief taste of the sport and a completely different view of the Mississippi River Gorge.
Following camp, participants will be eligible to continue rowing in the Middle School Rowing Program.

For middle school rowers who have already completed a Learn To Row camp or have other prior rowing experience. This program will continue development of sweep rowing and sculling skills in a fun and supportive environment. We welcome rowers back throughout middle school and provide an excellent progression for those interested in continuing to row in high school. All participants will receive a t-shirt. On the final day of camp, members of MRC Junior Team will mix it up with Summer Rowers and race in a mini regatta.
If sufficient interest and participation, the Middle School Rowing Program may continue 1-2 days per week during the fall into October.
The Middle School Rowing Program is led by MRC Coach and middle school teacher Mel Dahlstrom. All programming is under the oversight of our Junior Head Coach, Vicki Larson.
Minneapolis Rowing Club is part of the U.S. Olympic Committee's Safe Sport program, seeking to create a healthy and supportive environment for all participants.
