Green Team is an inclusive group of athletes, comprised of 2nd and 3rd year rowers and/or rowers new to MRC with at least one year of rowing experience. This program may also be appropriate for athletes returning to the sport after an absence. Emphasis is placed on skill development (sweep and scull), learning to row boats of all sizes and configurations, and race preparation and endurance (if desired). As the focus of the program is on building rowing skills and confidence, Green Team athletes are asked to commit to rowing the entire on-water season (spring/summer/fall).

Green Captains
Maran Wolston

Hi! My name is Maran. I started rowing with the club last year, after four long years of erging at home, beginning in March 2020. I erged over four million meters during those years, participating in Concept2's super fun challenges, fundraisers, etc., meanwhile I tried without luck to get into LTR. Eventually I did and I was SO HAPPY. I'm very proud of this amazing club and am honored to serve as a captain this year. In addition to being a member of this lovely community I'm also a philosophy teacher at MCTC, prison education advocate, potter, partner, and spend lots of time with my wonderful Great Dane, Lou. I prefer they/them pronouns but she/her is okay, too.

I had never rowed before joining MRC, though I was a sprinter before college. After moving from California to Minnesota in late 2023, I was randomly scrolling Google Maps in 2025 when I found MRC and discovered that LTR registration opened the following week. It felt like fate, so I signed up.
This is my second year rowing with MRC, and I've met so many wonderful people through the club. I joined to make friends, be part of a welcoming community, and spend more time outdoors, and I've been inspired by my fellow rowers and coaches ever since.
Outside of rowing, I volunteer with the Minnesota Zoo, where I record animal behaviors, monitor bluebird houses, and help operate the carousel. I'm also a learning home cook and baker, and I enjoy sharing my baked goods with fellow rowers.
